All of these instruments share the same design and features, with the main difference being the choice of soundboard wood. Unlike mass-produced instruments, each mandola I craft is carved with care to achieve optimal tone. This attention to detail ensures that, despite the use of different tone woods, all of the instruments share a very similar overall sound, with only subtle variations that may not always come through clearly in recordings.

The Alaskan cedar produces a slightly brighter voice, the Western red cedar leans toward a warmer bass response, and the Adirondack spruce offers a more lush resonance. To give you the most authentic impression, the recordings of all three instruments were made under identical conditions, without any digital editing.

The videos below feature the actual instruments for sale. You’ll also see Emma Borders showcasing her mandola, built with an Alaskan cedar top. Her instrument includes extra aesthetic touches—like a stained body and a Baroque-style headstock—but at its core, it’s the same model and quality you’ll find here.
