About This Model

Although I’m not a car enthusiast, the only time the subject interests me is when I’m looking at a new concept car, those moments when automakers explore fresh ideas in design, engineering, and technology.

I wanted to take the same approach with my new Octave Mandolin. This instrument is the result of experimenting with new designs, ideas, and structural concepts. Surprisingly, almost all of these innovations have already found their way into my latest mandolin builds.

Innovations

The most significant innovation is the double‑chambered architecture, something that has never been attempted on an Octave Mandolin.

The multiscale (fan‑fret) fingerboard is not new historically, Renaissance players used adjustable gut frets to achieve similar layouts but the idea was largely abandoned once fixed metal frets became standard. I felt this feature would be especially meaningful on an Octave Mandolin, offering greater flexibility and potentially redefining its role as a leading instrument in its range.

There are also aesthetic innovations, including a custom tailpiece with a magnetic cover and improved carving of the cut‑outs, giving this instrument a refined appearance.

Customization

This model will also be available with a regular scale and additional features according to the customer’s preferences.
